DAY 1: Overnight Flight to Europe/Italy Depart on your overnight flight to Italy. Day 2: Arrive Italy! After arriving in Italy, meet your Tour Director and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner this evening. (D) Overnight: Montecatini Day 3: Florence - Walking Tour - The David Today enjoy a walking tour of Florence featuring a visit to the Academy Gallery to see Michelangelo’s original Statue of David, a truly awesome sight. Then view the Cathedral to see Giotto’s Belltower and Baptistry with its impressive ‘Gates of Paradise’. These buildings demonstrate the traditions of Florentine art and architecture from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Also see the open-air museum of Piazza Della Signoria & Santa Croce, which houses the tombs of Michelangelo and Galileo. The insightful walking tour also features a stroll across the famous Ponte Vecchio Bridge lined with shops. The afternoon is at leisure have lunch on your own and explore this beautiful city, shop for jewelry & leather items or enjoy a cappuccino at a cafe. Perhaps a visit on your own to The Uffizi (“the offices”), one of the oldest, most famous art galleries in the world which holds some of the most important artworks of all time. (B) Overnight: Montecatini Day 4: Montecatini The day is free to explore on your own. An optional tour is available to Bologna & FICO Eataly World. Travel to a region of Italy famous for its balsamic vinegar, prosciutto, local cheese, and surrounding countryside. Visit a local farm to learn more about the food culture of this region. Enjoy an authentic tasting experience featuring local specialties and lunch. Later travel to Bologna, one of the best-preserved historic centers among Italian cities. Its architecture is noted for its terracotta reds, burnt oranges, and warm yellows. The extensive town center, characterized by miles of attractive covered walkways, known as “porticos,” is one of the best-preserved in Europe. Next visit FICO Eataly World, the largest food park in the world. Free time to shop for wine, cheese, coffee and explore on your own before returning to your hotel. (B) Overnight: Montecatini
Day 5: Lucca - Pisa - Tuscan Winery Visit & Tasting Travel to Lucca to explore the Old Town filled with quaint shops and Gothic palaces. Lucca’s great era was in the Gothic time just before the Renaissance, and the city contains stunning architecture from that period. Later visit Pisa, one of the most famous cities in Italy. Here you will stroll into the Piazza Dei Miracoli to see the Duomo, the historic Baptistry and the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. The tower is 180 feet high and no less than 13 feet off of the perpendicular; an amazing sight to see. Later stop for a Tuscan Winery Visit & Tasting experience where you will learn about and sample a selection of local wines with stunning views of the vineyards. Continue through the lush Tuscan countryside and return to your hotel. (B) Overnight: Montecatini Day 6: Montecatini The day is at leisure to relax, shop or explore on your own. A full day optional tour is available to Portofino & the Italian Riviera. See the stunning Ligurian Coastline - a region of deep green vegetation with picturesque ports and villages tucked into inviting harbors. After driving along a stretch of panoramic coast, you reach one of the most beautiful resorts on the Eastern Riviera, Santa Margherita Ligure. Enjoy some time to explore this quaint town before continuing to Portofino where you can stroll the narrow streets and maybe taste the famous Focaccia bread. The rocky, rugged promontory offers one of the most beautiful landscapes on the Italian Riviera. Explore this fashionable seaside resort before returning to your hotel. (B) Overnight: Montecatini Day 7: Montecatini The day at free for you to choose to explore on your own or join the optional tour to Siena and San Gimignano. This morning travel into the heart of Tuscany. Enjoy a Siena City Tour as you stroll the medieval streets to the dramatic Campo, scene of the annual Palio horse race. Also see the town’s famous cathedral. Tuscany is an enchanting region, travel through some of Tuscany’s most beautiful countryside dotted with olive and fig trees and picturesque rolling hills. Arrive in the hilltop town of San Gimignano, one of the most picturesque of Italy’s perfectly preserved medieval towns. Medieval towers, built in the 12th century by nobility, are visible from afar. Stroll along the quaint streets and visit Piazza della Cisterna, one of Italy’s most picturesque town squares. Drive through the lush countryside and rolling hills of Tuscany enroute back to Montecatini. Tonight enjoy a Farewell Dinner with your fellow travelers. (B,D) Overnight: Montecatini Day 8: Florence - USA Transfer to the airport for your return flight home filled with memories of your Taste of Tuscany Italy tour. An opportunity is available to continue exploring Italy and join the optional two-night extension to Rome. (B)
Optional 2 Nights ROME Post Tour +$595 pp double/+$200 single supplement Day 8: Montecatini - Orvieto - Rome Today travel south and into the beautiful countryside to the Umbrian hilltop town of Orvieto, its gothic Cathedral is one of Italy’s most celebrated buildings. Enjoy a walking tour of the city with a local guide and visit the Cathedral with its San Brizio Chapel. Some free time to browse through the tempting shops located off Piazza del Duomo. Travel to the ‘Eternal City’ of Rome, the capital and largest city in Italy. The center of power, culture and religion, has exerted a influence over the world in its 2800 years of existence. Upon arrival enjoy a panoramic city tour of Rome to see some of the highlights of the city such as Ancient Rome, the Colosseum, The Arch of Constantine, Circus Maximus, Piazza Venezia, and the Pantheon. Check into your hotel for a two-night stay. The evening is at leisure. (B) Overnight: Rome Day 9: Rome - Vatican Museum - Sistine Chapel - St. Peter’s Basilica This morning it’s just a short ride on the motorcoach to another country – Vatican City. With our expert local guide we’ll tour the Vatican Museums - a massive collection of ancient Greek sculptures, medieval tapestries and Renaissance paintings. Our visit ends in the Sistine Chapel, it’s ceiling painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512. This room, receives more than five million visitors each year and is also where the Pope is elected. Next visit St. Peter’s Basilica, by far the largest church in Christendom. We’ll see Michelangelo’s Pieta, sculpted when he was just 24 years old, as well as Bernini’s seven story bronze canopy located above the main altar and more. Enjoy some free time this afternoon to explore the ‘Eternal City’ on your own. Perhaps a visit inside the Colosseum, a walk on Via Veneto, enjoy a cappuccino or gelato or shop for souvenirs. This evening join new friends at a Farewell Dinner including wine and entertainment. (B) Overnight: Paris Day 10: Rome - Flight Home - USA Fly home with wonderful memories of Rome and your Taste of Tuscany Italy tour.
